Mum is nearby

She travelled a thousand kilometres for one reason alone – so that her son could take his first independent step.

Roma has cerebral palsy and epilepsy. After his seizures, he suffers setbacks, and each time he has to start all over again. But Roma has a mum who refuses to give up.
This mum’s greatest dream and goal is to get her son back on his feet and ensure remission, so that the seizures no longer take away from Roma what they have achieved together.
We have never met such a devoted mother before. Just imagine: travelling a thousand kilometres to another country with a child who cannot walk by himself, all so that Roma can learn to walk, move, develop and not become dependent on a wheelchair.

This family’s main request was very simple and, at the same time, very significant: the sea for Roma and holy places to pray for his health.
And we did our best to make his mum’s dream come true.
We took Roma to the holy places of Cyprus. We were welcomed with incredible warmth and love. And wherever we went, it was as if we received a small sign of hope each time: a saint’s feast day, a miraculous icon, a holy site, the Belt of the Most Holy Mother of God…

We do not know what path lies ahead for Roma. But we know one thing for certain: as long as his mum believes, fights on and does everything she can, there will be people by their side, ready to support them.

And we will continue to believe alongside them.
