Dear friends at Rainbow in Cyprus,
Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of adopting a child from an orphanage. For many years, that dream seemed impossible until one day I learned how the adoption process worked.
While looking through the profiles of children waiting for families, one little boy immediately caught my attention — Timur. To this day, I cannot explain why it was him. He reminded me so much of my older son when he was little. Out of hundreds of children, it was his face that stayed with me.
Some time later, the child welfare authorities invited me to meet a child. To my surprise, the very first child they introduced me to was Timur.
That was when I learned that he had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy (CP). Honestly, I knew very little about the condition at the time. But when I met Timur, I saw an ordinary little boy who simply needed love, a family, and support.
Unfortunately, my decision to welcome Timur into our family was not supported by my husband. Our relationship could not survive this disagreement and we eventually divorced.
The opinion that mattered most to me was that of my older son. If he had said he was not ready to accept Timur, I would never have taken this step. Thankfully, he supported my decision and together we went to meet Timur for the very first time. That was how Timur became part of our family. He has now been living with me for three and a half years.
Of course this journey has not been easy. A child who grows up without a family carries deep emotional wounds. On top of that Timur faces the daily challenges of living with cerebral palsy. We still have a long road ahead of us, filled with treatment, therapy, and rehabilitation. But despite every challenge we love each other deeply and I have never regretted my decision.
Today, Timur is eight years old. In all these years he has never seen the sea.
Sometimes he asks me what it looks like, whether he will be able to swim in it, and when we will finally go there together. He dreams of swimming, playing on the beach, enjoying a pool, and simply being an ordinary, happy child.
Sadly, I cannot make that dream come true on my own. We live in a region close to the war zone, and any trip requires a long and complicated journey as well as significant financial resources. At the moment, such expenses are simply beyond our family's means.
That is why we are asking for your help.
The support of the "Rainbow in Cyprus" foundation would mean much more than an opportunity for rehabilitation. It would give Timur the chance to experience the sea for the very first time, create joyful memories, regain strength, and continue his journey toward a healthier and happier future.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to read our story and chose to support our family.
With sincere gratitude,
Liza
